These were two of my projects from Drawing II last year I found in my portfolio.  I forget how canson mietentis feels.  I just remember hating the texture of the paper, as it always made my line quality look like crap.

My Carl Sagan books came in the mail today.  My excitement can be compared to that of my seven-year old self, heaving short, forced breaths as my mom pulled into the parking lot of Discovery Zone.  Just as I couldn't wait to tear through the obstacle-clad maze of an indoor playground, I can't seemingly wait to rip through these books.

I close with a sigh of contentment, and utter a short 'fuck yeah'.

Value study for my seated figure.

Previously, I've relied on soft transitions for rendering heavily shifting values.  In this case, the figure in my reference picture is wearing a black nylon windbreaker, which provides for plenty of rough folds and crumples, not unlike a wadded piece of paper.  In turn, I'm using a more harsh, ''cranked'' contrast technique.  Hope Underdown digs it.

I also want the Mickey Mouse shirt the figure is wearing.

We were each assigned a Maxwell Parrish piece, told to recreate it and to replace the figure with that of a toy or action figure.  I chose to replace my nude, swinging man with this fine piece of ass:

Sketchbook for Perspective and Figure Illustration

Each still life was done in two 3-hour sessions in my Illustration Techniques class.

I've decided to start a blogspot for the documentation of my recent transfer of majors, from Graphic Design to Illustration.  The frequency of my posts will be from one to two days at a time.  Since I'm new to the blogspot world, I will inevitably be working out the kinks on how it works, namely, how to disable the underlined text..

At any rate, I'll update frequently in the next few days to accommodate for the progress I've neglected to post.
